HISTORY
Not a lot is known about ryohei's history in the canon series. What is known, though, is how he obtained the scar on his left temple. At the age of about 7 or 8, a group of junior high students used his sister Kyoko as a hostage to lure him into a trap and beat him up. The reasons junior high students would have against an elementary school kid are unexplained. Kyoko blames herself for that incident and thus, Ryohei promised her to only fight for important matters.

In the manga, Ryohei is first introduced as the older brother of Sawada Tsunayoshi's love interest and also the passionate captain of the boxing club of his school who, after seeing Tsuna in 'dying will' mode, keeps trying to make Tsuna join the club.

For the rest of the first arc, Ryohei makes random appearances in certain chapters. He is usually depicted in funny or embarrassing situations like trying to fight the bears of the zoo or swimming in a very strange way. A side character, in other words.

Later, during the Battles for the Vongola Rings, Ryohei is entrusted with "the Sun Ring", becoming one of the 7 Guardians of the "Vongola Famiglia". Every Guardian is assigned to a personal trainer, and Colonello is chosen as Ryohei's. Colonello teaches him how to unleash his signature technique "Maximum Cannon" that helps him defeat his opponent against the "Varia" Member Lussuria and save his friends during the last fight between Tsuna and Xanxus, Varia's Boss.

In the future, Ryohei is seen returning from Italy after working as a messenger of the Tenth Boss (Sawada Tsunayoshi) for the Varia. He is the one who brings the information of the plan for the attack on the Millefiore's base. During that attack, he fights and defeats Baishana, a member of the Millefiore, and later he is defeated by Electric Gamma after being electrocuted by his attacks.

PERSONALITY

Before describing how he in the future, why don't we check how he was ten years before?

Loud, energetic and strong-willed, Ryohei was not unlike a grown up kid. Always in motion, constantly pushing his life beyond its limits: training, yelling around, fighting; he was extreme!

He used to get easily excited at the sight of a new challenge, a way to test his strength and become even stronger, for himself.
He was extremely impulsive, rushing into things or fights without thinking about it twice or about the consequences; neither about his opponents, actually. Ryohei would have fought just about anything; even a bear! He did know his limits, though, he just loved to push them all the time.

Despite all this, Ryohei took all of his fights really seriously. In his mind a real fight was supposed to be a sacred moment between two men, fair no matter what adversary he was facing. Breaking a rule during one of them would only make him spite himself. "That's not what a real fighter would do!" using his own words.
He never cared about losing, though, a lost fight for him is only a new reason for more training and become even stronger! However, he does always point to the victory. Just not to the extent that would make him act unfairly.

As a kid he was, most of all, very stubborn. All of his decisions were impossible to change, no matter what others would tell him. To change his mind, clearly that someone had to tell him something that was more extreme of what he thought, and that obviously wasn't easy. He was the kind of kid that kept trying and trying until he succeeded on his task; without even thinking once that it could be impossible for him. That was what it meant for him to push himself to the limit.

Intelligence-wise, Ryohei probably wasn't the sharpest mind around. Clueless to most things; he used to take a lot of time comprehending things. He also had a very short memory and easily forgot important details. But that didn't really mean that he was a complete idiot. He was just... simple-minded.

Ryohei was also the perfect definition of the word "caring brother".
He would've done anything for his sister. If she asked him for the moon, he wouldn’t have given up until he’d brought it to her. However, other than be his most important point of strength, his main inspiration; his sister was also his biggest weakness. For her he would've sacrificed himself anytime and in any way, even putting his own life in danger if that meant saving hers. For her, he would've fought a friend. He'd lie to her to not make her worry. She was his main priority, whatever may happen.

Despite his cheerful and exuberant front, he was actually quite irritable. If someone started provoking him, he wasn't the kind of kid who would've waited too much before counterattacking, both verbally and physically. He wouldn't have to consider the idea of punching your face more than once.

However, in all actuality, he was pretty nice. Ryohei was the kind of person that would've have never let a friend in danger, even if that would've cost his own life. All of his word were always honest. Everything he did, he would have done it because for him that was the right thing to do, even if his thoughts weren't always right.

So, what could've happened to a kid like this after 10 years? After 10 years of living in the Mafia?

Ryohei is pretty much the same as his younger self. Loud, excitable, energetic, irritable... extreme! Most of his main characteristics haven't really changed, he still loves fighting and training, and still takes both of them seriously -- to an extent that makes him use a support weapon, just to fight with his own hands.

He's still a great friend... and most importantly, he's still a caring brother.

So, what has really changed?

The Sun Guardian is obviously not the same as before, under the skin of that energetic boxer now exists an extremely mature person. He doesn't act as an idiot anymore, and he isn't as? reckless or impulsive. He learned to think before he acts, even if there are moments where he can lose his mental calm and act on an impulse. But these moments are always less frequent and are usually brought on by something related to his loved ones.

Most important of all, Ryohei acknowledges that the new world he's in and his role in it. It isn't just a normal fight, anymore; it isn't just happy training times with Master Colonnello. It's the Mafia. And by that time, he has probably experienced all the bad sides of it. He's probably killed and seen death more than once, even the ones of people he cares about.

But as I said, after all, Ryohei is still Ryohei.

Living in a bad world, living a life that he has never thought about; those aren't reasons enough to make him change. He'll still be the cheerful, loud guy of the group. You know, the one who's constantly full of energy and who will keep bringing the good mood (and annoyance to other).

Honor and morals mean a lot to Ryohei, and he respects whoever thinks the same, no matter if that person is a friend or an enemy. Even when doing such a job, fairness for him was still extremely important. Killing was something that should happen only it was extremely necessary; and for Ryohei, that most likely meant never.
He has lost two of his most important people and that didn't change him either. Not that he didn't care. He did, and probably felt guilty for being not strong enough to protect them. But he just isn't the kind of man who would waste his time being depressed instead of doing something.

"To crush any adversities that assault the family with my own body. I'm the sun that shines bright!"

That's it, Ryohei knows his role in the Vongola.

"Protect the family with his own body": who more than Ryohei would be good for a job like this? Risking his own life to protect his friends, that's his main duty and he would do anything to achieve it.

ABILITIES

Ryohei is depicted as someone born with a rare type of muscles cells. These cells have, as his Master said, the elasticity and tenderness that only one in a million possess. Therefore, resting more often would allow those cells to constantly be in excellent condition.

Being a boxer, and a very skilled one at it, Ryohei is also very skilled in close quarters combat and rather fast on his feet -- since footwork is supposed to be one of the basics of boxing. Because of his training and his strong muscles, he's also really hard to knock down.

Later in the series, during a special training session, he's also shot by his trainer with another special bullet that entrusted him with the Maximum Cannon: A technique capable of destroying boulders - and even metal - that focuses all of the power of his cells to his fist. During his training, he was unable to maximise the power of this technique to 100% --however, during his fight, his strong feelings toward his sister helped him finally unleash the technique's full power.

In the future, Ryohei learns a special type of footwork from one of his first opponents that permits him to move at a really fast speed and to upgrade his "Maximum Cannon" into the "Maximum Ingran", which deals multiple blows. He carries a special box that contains a kangaroo (which he named Kangaryuu) that when released, grants him a pair of special gloves able to multiply the living cells of his body at great speed permitting himself to heal faster along with a pair of boots that permits him to fly.

Ryohei also carries a box that has the power of healing some kinds of injuries using the sun "Activation" ability (the same as his gloves) and one that unleashes a bunch of solid ropes that can't be untied unless he decides or if he falls unconscious.

What are they bringing to Nuadoria?:

His boxes (including Kangaryuu).
Various rings on his fingers.
Suit.

Third-Person Sample:
So he lost, huh?

It wasn't the first time for Ryohei to lost a fight. He lost quite a few times during his boxing matches and pretty much all of his quarrels with Hibari ended up with him knocked out on the floor after being hit 10 or more times on his head by Hibari's tonfa. But he never thought that it was a bad thing. If his adversary's strength was superior enough to defeat him, then the only thing to do was to train and train until he became stronger enough to win their next fight.

However, none of those fights were as important as this one.

If he still had the Sun ring, then maybe -- No. Ryohei wouldn't blame the rings for his defeat. He lost because he wasn't strong enough, he lost because he wasn't smart enough to find a flaw in his adversary's attack. Even after all of he went through, after all his trainings; he was not strong enough to protect the kids as much as he wanted.

Would they be okay?

Sawada: he went ahead by himself and Ryohei didn't hear from him since that time. Same with Yamamoto, since they got separated because of that earthquake... not a word. The one that worried him the most was Gokudera, though. The kid was facing the same man that had defeated him, and even if he improved he wasn't--

No. Gokudera was strong. The kids were strong. They knew how important that mission was and they didn't need him to worry about them. If he wanted to be of some use to them he had to do something more than just being concerned.

He tried to stand up; head still spinning like mad and didn't give sign of stopping anytime soon. But this was Ryohei, and there was in need of something more to knock him down than a headache. His breath was heavy, exhaling and breathing at a steady pace to try to put it to a normal rhythm ( being a boxer, knowing how to do that was pretty normal ). He wiped the blood from his mouth while trying to walk; his sight was blurry, but good enough to understand that that place was not the Millefiore's base.

Where he was or whatever the hell that place could've been didn't really mind at the moment. If the kids were there, he had to find them. And these wounds wouldn't stop him from it.

First-Person Sample:
[ The transmission starts with a loud thud followed some seconds later by the sound of a hand scratching the floor really near the device. ]

Owww, my head--

[ A long moment passed as he sits properly on the floor laying his back on a wall (his sight is blurry so it takes a bit for to focus the surroundings). It's here where his voice sounds stronger (as he speaks right into the communicator). ]

Oi, Octopus-head! You here!? [ He breaths heavily and his voice sounds pained. ] Sawada, Yamamoto!?

Dammit--! [ Another thud and the transmission cuts off. ]

*insert stuff about morals and etc* (for using a gun instead of your own hands)
